Since looking into the commercial landscape, despite conflicting opinions, there are many people who have shown strong interest in these devices, as well as many advantages related to their use.
In addition to the indisputable fact that it is definitely less harmful than the traditional cigarette, another of the main advantages of using the electronic cigarette is that it allows you to save considerably, against a small initial investment.

Electronic cigarette with e liquid: how it works
Before going into the detailed explanation of how to make the e liquid, it is good to have more information about the operation of the device.
The electronic cigarette essentially consists of three parts:
- Resistance
- Liquid cartridge
- Mouthpiece
When activated, the overheating of the resistance causes the evaporation of the flavored liquid contained in the cartridge. The smoker (or vaper) through the mouthpiece the smoke generated, which is just steam.

Forget the image of the scientist in a laboratory who juggles potions and test tubes. Making liquid for the electronic cigarette is a breeze and only 3 basic ingredients are enough:
- Propylene glycol
- Vegetable glycerol
- E liquid concentrates
In addition, the following are optional:
- Distilled water
- Liquid nicotine
Let’s see in detail what these compounds are and what they are for.
Propylene glycol (PG)
Propylene Glycol (in acronym PG) is an odorless and tasteless vegetable additive with a rather viscous consistency.
Widely used industrially, when used in the preparation of e-liquids it is responsible for the intensity of the aroma.
So a higher quantity of PG in the liquid gives more intensity to the taste when the smoker is vaping but, being a denser liquid, the intensity of steam released will decrease.
Propylene Glycol can be easily found in pharmacies, available in various formats, or can be ordered on Amazon or other online stores.
Vegetable Glycerol (VG)
Vegetable Glycerol (abbreviation VG) is an organic compound better known by the name of glycerin, commonly used also for food, for the preparation of creams and syrups, or in the cosmetic field.
It is also odorless and colorless but with a sweet taste. More concentration of VG in the compound will give more intensity to the steam that is produced.
E liquid flavours
Here we are at the fundamental element of the whole recipe, one of the main reasons why you could decide to make the liquid for your electronic cigarette by yourself and at home.
Assuming that you are spoiled for choice because there are many flavors on the market, we can divide them into 3 macro-categories:
Fruity flavours are the most common and loved ones. As the name suggests, they recall the flavor of the fruits and consequently there are some with a sweet aroma and others with more tart aroma.
The bakery flavours are the most luxurious ones, for those who want to treat themselves to the pleasure of savoring a delicious aroma with every puff. You can get chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, meringue, biscuit, marshmallow and other goodies, like in a real pastry.
Finally, tobacco flavours and tobacco e liquid are the favorite for those who love the strong taste of tobacco and do not want to give up its classic flavour, while opting for a less harmful alternative to the cigarettes. Anyway it is possible to combine two or more aromas to create new and particular mixes.

How to make liquid for electronic cigarette: doses
After explaining in detail the components needed to create an e-liquid and their characteristics, let’s now see how to make the liquid for the electronic cigarette quickly and safely.
First of all you need to wear latex gloves, and use dosing syringes and hermetically resealable jars (preferably glass jars, beacause plastic ones can become impregnated with smells and residues).
Then you need to determine if you want to create a liquid for cheek shooting (which generates more steam) or lung (more intense, but with less steam).
Consequently, a balanced combination for the first type of liquid is composed as follows:
- 50% Propylene Glycol
- 40% Vegetable Glycerol
- 10% Aroma
For the second case, however, you can proceed as follows:
- 90% Vegetable Glycerol
- 10% Propylene Glycol
The percentage of aroma in the compound is variable, it is usually advisable to add 10 ml of aroma for every 100 ml of base liquid ecig.
Distilled water can be added to dilute the mixture and making it less viscous.
Once all the ingredients are combined, they must be left to macerate for 10 to 30 days in the closed jars, remembering to shake them every so often.
And what about nicotine?
It is essential to underline that nicotine is a highly harmful product and we do not recommend using it at home if you are not an expert and you do not take the appropriate precautions.
Very little is needed to cause irreparable damage if it comes into contact with the skin, therefore we recommend opting for the purchase of ready-made diy e liquid containing liquid nicotine to which you can add your favorite aroma as you wish.
