Everything you need to know about the expiration of e-liquids and the average consumption of vaper
The question “How long does e-cigarette liquid last?” is quite interesting for two reasons. First of all, it is among the most common among those who are not experts in vaping.
In addition, it can be interpreted in two ways:
- how long does an e-cigarette liquid last, or how long does it expire? ;
- how much e-liquid consumes, on average, a vaper?
In the following article we will answer both questions.
Why do e-cigarette liquids not have an expiration date?
If you have been vaping for some time, you may have noticed that most e-cigarette liquids do not have an expiration date.
Is this a serious oversight on the part of manufacturers? Not at all!
The reason is another: electronic-cigarette liquids are not easily perishable, such as foodstuffs, and do not have a genuine past expiration date which can become harmful to health. However, over time they may lose their aromatic characteristics and take on a less pleasant taste. For this reason, it is sometimes possible for their packaging to have a date by which they can be consumed.
In short, if you have stored e-cigarette liquids for a long time you don’t have to worry: you can vape them anyway, but first make sure you have them stored in a cool, dry place and have them stored inside tightly closed bottles. The heat and the continuous contact with the air, in fact, may have spoiled their aroma and, in this case, you risk to feel a flavor if you decide to vape!

The average consumption of the vaper according to the atomizer used
Now let’s move on to the second possible interpretation of the question “How long does e-cigarette fluid last”? Obviously, the answer depends on the habits of the vaper, but we can generalize according to the average consumption.
Those who use MTL atomizers, usually vape from 10 to 20 ml per day. Of course, this value can vary significantly depending on the resistances mounted in the e-cig and the power delivered by the battery.
For example, a coil with a low Ohm value used at high wattages produces a lot of steam, but at the same time quickly depletes the e-liquid. However, even in the most extreme cases, the consumption of liquid does not differ too much from the average we have just indicated.
Vapers using DTL atomizers, on the other hand, use an average of 2 to 4 ml per day. Also in this case the consideration made above regarding the resistance and the power supplied by the battery applies.
How much does it cost?
If you are interested in what is the daily consumption of liquids per electronic cigarette, you probably want to know it to calculate the average expense of a vaper and, perhaps, compare it to that of a smoker. On the other hand, if you are thinking of abandoning cigarettes in favor of e-cig, it is normal that you want to understand if such a decision can help you save money, as well as health.
More than fair.
Let’s make a quick calculation to know the average expenditure of a smoker, assuming a consumption ranging from 10 to 20 traditional cigarettes. Since the cost of a package is about 5 euros, a tobacco worker spends from 2.5 to 5 euros per day, or from 75 to 150 euros per month.
Now we do the same calculation for e-cigarette liquids.
Pre-mixed e-liquids for MTL atomizers cost about 6 euros per 10 ml bottle. As a result, a MTL vaper spends daily from 1 to 3 euros and, monthly, from 30 to 90 euros.
What about DTL vape?
The latter have an average cost of 25 euros per bottle of 60 ml. Considering the data that we have illustrated in the previous paragraph, a DTL vaper spends daily from 2 to 4 euros approximately, that is from 60 to 120 euros per month.
In essence, we can say that the average expenditure on liquids for vaping is much lower than for traditional cigarettes.

In this article we explained that e-cigarette liquids do not have a real expiration date because they are not made from easily perishable substances. Just store them carefully in a tightly closed bottle to make sure they keep their aromatic characteristics for a long time and are always ready to be vaped.
